The future of Adrien Silva, currently contracted to Sporting CP in Portugal, is something we’ve been keeping a close eye on recently after claims were made he was of interest to a few Premier League clubs.
Everton have been strongly linked with the midfielder by the Portuguese press, with an article last week claiming an official bid was on the way from Ronald Koeman’s side.
However, the French press on Friday have a different opinion on the matter, with Tottenham the latest club to have positioned themselves for the signing of the 27-year-old.
L’Equipe report that although Everton and AC Milan enquired a few weeks ago, Spurs’ interest is a lot more reason, with Mauricio Pochettino very appreciative of what the player brings on the pitch.
The daily newspaper state that in order to make a bid to bring the player to White Hart Lane, the club will need to get rid of a bit of deadwood to create in the squad.
With this in mind, they expect something to happen during the second half of August rather than in the next few days.
We had a look in the Portuguese press, and while the Everton interest was reported, this Tottenham arrival on the matter appears to be news to them too.
While this may seem strange considering the player is in Portugal right, it’s worth pointing out Silva was born in France, so has strong roots in the country, as well as being represented by a French agency.
If they’ve let slip Tottenham are interested, L’Equipe, the country’s biggest sports paper, getting the information might not be such a surprise after all.
