After a goalless draw against Sevilla in December 2016, Lyon will make their first appearance in the Champions League after 18 months, when they face Manchester City later today.
In the league, Bruno Genesio’s side have won two of their first five matches this season and settled for a 2-2 draw against Caen in the last tie, and the Premier League winners, on the other hand, are unbeaten in the league, having won four of the five games played so far.
French newspaper L’Equipe has told the Ligue 1 side ‘how to deal’ with the Etihad outfit and have suggested to emulate what Liverpool did against Pep Guardiola’s side in the quarter-final of the European competition last campaign.
It’s suggested that Lyon need to have players with pace in the wide positions in order to restrict the English club’s wingers and fullbacks going forward. Lyon are also told to stop City attackers from cutting inside in the final third.
The former Barcelona manager was ‘frustrated’ with his side’s display against Fulham and it should be seen whether Lyon can give any trouble to City in the first Champions League fixture of the season.
