While it appeared that Ismaila Soro was on his way out of Celtic, where he doesn’t appear to have a future under Brendan Rodgers, a potential transfer to Valenciennes is currently pending.
One of the reasons for this has been a very controversial move by Ben Chorley, who is the new sporting director at the Ligue 2 club.
Foot Mercato have the latest update on the situation, as after Soro agreed to leave Celtic to move to Valenciennes, the club ‘decided to dismiss the player’s agent’ in order to appoint an English intermediary to help with the case.
What’s important here, and could be a problem for the French side, is that ‘this practice is illegal in France’, and the agent who was dismissed, one ‘affiliated to the FFF’, is now ‘entitled to lodge a complaint’.
This doesn’t affect Celtic legally per se, but it may stop them from completing a sale, as the French Football Federation could get involved.
In fact, Foot Mercato claim they are ‘likely to take up the matter’ and investigate the former defender’s methods on the transfer market.
This means more waiting for Celtic to get rid of Soro from Rodgers’ squad, as the 25-year-old continues to look for an exit from Parkhead after spending last season on loan at Arouca in Portugal.
