Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a claim made by journalist Pipe Sierra that Santiago Arias’ agents and lawyers are not in talks with Manchester United over a potential deal for the right-back.

Sierra also stated the 30-year-old is free to negotiate on his own with the Red Devils, if he wants to.

The Colombia international has been without a club since leaving Atlético Madrid, and Manchester United have been pushed forward as an option for him in recent days because he is available as a free agent.

According to Colombia’s Antena 2, the possibility of seeing the defender at Old Trafford is ‘increasing more and more’. Arias was at PSV Eindhoven from 2013 to 2018 and during his time in the Eredivisie, Erik ten Hag, who was then at Ajax, took notice of his displays.

It’s said the South American’s spell at PSV ‘weighs heavily’ on Ten Hag as the manager is ‘clear about the player’s performances’ in Eindhoven. It was in the Dutch league he established himself and that helped him get a move to Atlético in 2018.

The player is fluent in English and the outlet explains this could be decisive to make it to the Manchester United squad.

Having struggled with injuries over the last few years, Arias hopes to ‘resolve his future as soon as possible’. Whether that will be at United or another club remains to be seen.

Ten Hag has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at his disposal at Old Trafford, so taking another right-back would seem excessive, unless there’s already a plan in motion for one of the other two to depart in January.
