On September 5th, we covered a claim made by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri that Jason Denayer’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers was ‘at an impasse’.
The centre-back left Lyon as a free agent at the end of last season and has not yet found a new club. His current situation will let him join another team for nothing, even outside the transfer window.
Wolves continue to be named as one of the contenders and the 27-year-old is ‘still in contact’ with the Premier League side.
That’s according to Tuesday’s Het Nieuwsblad, who state these ‘negotiations are difficult’, mainly because of the defender’s attitude. This has been a recurring issue with him because no matter how good the proposal is, it isn’t good enough for the player.
Denayer either wants more money or a better sporting project, and when these conditions are fulfilled, he ‘blows everything away in the end’.
Either way, the Belgium international’s negotiations with Wolves have become difficult. It remains to be seen whether he can reach an agreement Bruno Lage’s side, who are urgently looking for defensive reinforcements.
Later this week, Belgium coach Roberto Martínez will announce the squad for September’s international break. It is likely that Denayer will be left out of the squad.
Denayer needs to find a new club soon so that he doesn’t miss out going to the Qatar World Cup. Het Nieuwsblad warn him the ‘clock is ticking’.
