Marco Asensio had an offer from Liverpool ‘on the table’ but rejected the approach in favour of joining Paris Saint Germain.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spaniard is close to signing for the French giants after confirming his departure from Real Madrid.
According to their information, Asensio is already in Paris finalising his move to the French champions on a deal worth four or five years.
That deal is expected to be finalised this week after he turned down proposals from other clubs to make the move.
He ‘had proposals’ from several clubs on the table and one of them was from Liverpool, who were keen to add him to Jurgen Klopp’s squad as part of their midfield overhaul this summer.
He finally opted for PSG as Luis Campos has been working hard to convince him on the move, assuring he will be a key part of the project moving forwards.
Their constant participation in the Champions League, something Liverpool can’t offer next season, was also a deciding factor, as was Paris’ proximity to Majorca compared to other locations he could have ended up at.
The Spaniard seemingly didn’t know about flights from John Lennon Airport straight to the island or Liverpool may have stood a better chance of pulling off a free agent coup.
