Let’s take you back to the end of May, before West Ham signed all of the free goalkeepers on the market and rumour had it they were interested in Lorient’s Alexis Claude-Maurice.

The news came from Soccer Link, who explained the Hammers had made an offer for the young forward, also targeted by Arsenal.

The Gunners had allegedly seen a €10m bid rejected, while the amount of money West Ham had submitted wasn’t published.

We’re guessing that was also turned down, since Le10 Sport claim Manuel Pellegrini’s side recently put more money on the table to convince the Ligue 2 club of letting their starlet go.

The French website state it’s now a battle between Borussia Monchengladbach and West Ham, whose offer is said to be ‘superior to €10m’.

It’s suggested the offer from the Premier League side is the most important on Lorient’s desk for now, and no Ligue 1 sides seem prepared to go anywhere near that price.

With the Bundesliga side needing to replace Thorgan Hazard, now at Borussia Dortmund, we could end up with an auction on our hands, which will undoubtedly thrill the Ligue 2 club who currently own Alexis Claude-Maurice.
