So, here we are, less than a week in following Manchester United’s decision to dismiss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Paris Saint-Germain are planning a future without Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine has quickly become the favourite to take over at Old Trafford, but there remains the obstacle of convincing the Ligue 1 side to part ways with their manager midway through the season.
One thing that would make the entire process easier would be for PSG to have a successor lined up, with Zinédine Zidane the dream option.
Well, according to Le Parisien, that is already in the works, since the French newspaper claim that ‘negotiations have been ongoing for weeks’.
With Pochettino’s future currently uncertain, they reveal the PSG board ‘indeed are talking with the former Ballon d’Or, even negotiating’.
‘Nothing is signed, obviously’, but the intention is to do ‘everything for the Frenchman to be the next París Saint-Germain manager’.
In fact, ‘things are advancing’, with a meeting taking place a few weeks ago, although the club deny that.
Now, the big question is when does he take over, because while PSG were negotiating for next season, it’s now ‘impossible today to know if the situation at PSG or at Manchester United can accelerate matters’.
Indeed, there’s a belief he’s the only manager who could convince Kylian Mbappé to stay, and with Pochettino hardly convincing everyone behind the scenes, this could be the ideal moment to bring him in and save the day.
As for Manchester United, they are currently in the process of sorting out an interim, but that could entirely change if the door opens for the Argentine and PSG decide to move on and bring in Zidane midway through the campaign.
