France’s FootMercato are reporting Premier League interest in Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.
The defender’s current contract expires at the end of June 2021, meaning that unless they plan to renew, and there’s no great confidence Bayern will do, the Bundesliga side will have to think about a sale in the summer.
FootMercato say, according to their own information, that among the clubs keen on Boateng are ‘notably Chelsea’ and Arsenal.
The Gunners are said to have ‘tried their luck’ to get the player in the January market. They failed and are now looking towards the summer window.
Boateng’s relations with Bayern Munich have deteriorated further in recent weeks, after he was fined for breaking the Covid-19 isolation advice. The player argued that was travelling to Leipzig to see his sick son and that any parent would have done the same.
Given that he turns 32 years of age in September and has fallen out of favour in Germany, he would be lucky to have interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
It’s questionable what length of contract the English clubs would be realistically willing to provide, and that would cast some doubt on the claims.
