Just under a week ago, we covered a story from SoccerNews in the Netherlands that Southampton, Crystal Palace and Burnley were ahead of Ajax for Toulouse’s Christopher Jullien.
However, if Manu Lonjon, a journalist for Yahoo! Sport in France, is to be believed, then Newcastle United have joined the race to sign the centre-back and placed themselves alongside the Saints as favourites to acquire his services.
Should the 25-year-old leave the Ligue 1 side, he would be their second exit at the role after selling Issa Diop to West Ham for around £22m earlier this week.
While Jullien would not fetch that kind of price, the SoccerNews report claimed a fee of €10m could do the trick.
That kind of amount shouldn’t be too much of an issue for Premier League sides, and if Newcastle and Southampton really want the defender, Toulouse will most likely sell.
It all depends on whether or not the Ligue 1 club want to see their whole defensive core go in one summer.
