Newcastle United’s interest in Marseille’s Bamba Dieng ‘is real’ but they will have to convince the player into the move.
That’s according to La Provence, who cover how the striker’s performances this season are earning him admiration around Europe.
Dieng joined Marseille in the summer and has four goals and an assist to his name in 14 games in Ligue 1 this season.
That ‘did not go unnoticed’ in Europe where, after being following by clubs in Belgium and the Netherlands in the summer, he has now earned attention for English scouts.
Among them are those from Newcastle, with reports in England even reporting a ‘colossal’ offer worth €18m.
La Provence cover that today and state that, according to their sources, no such proposal from Newcastle has arrived on Pablo Longoria’s desk as yet.
That is not to say there is no interest, though, with the newspaper stating that despite an offer, their interest is ‘nonetheless real’.
They face competition from West Ham, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace for his signature, and they’ll also have to convince Marseille into a sale.
On that front, ‘nothing is less certain’, and they are determined to keep hold of the player, who they have been ‘delighted’ with this season.
The player is also ‘very happy’ in Marseille at this moment in time, so Newcastle will have to work hard to convince him and his club if they want a deal to happen.
