Despite declaring his happiness at Manchester United over the international break, Paul Pogba, when asked about Real Madrid, didn’t exactly help transfer rumours.
Saying what every France international that isn’t N’Golo Kanté would say (that playing under Zinedine Zidane would be great), the midfielder also described Real Madrid as a club kids dream of, and it’s worth pointing out he was once a kid too.
This has caused some members of the media to go into mini overdrive, with mentions of a potential transfer being thrown in here and there, attempting some kind of transfer inception.
Le Parisien do it on Wednesday, looking at where some of the France national team players could end up, and they seem fairly confident Manchester United would sell.
They write: “Paul Pogba plays in England, but is seducing Real, currently mid-reconstruction. He isn’t saying no. Pogba transforms a team and the Kroos-Modric era is coming to an end. For €100-150m, Manchester United can see their player slip away under the Channel.”
Seeing as the Red Devils originally paid €100m for the then Juventus midfielder, it seems unlikely they’d sell him for the exact same amount, especially when you take into account his form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past few months.
Even €150m seems a bit low in today’s market for a player who, as Le Parisien say, can ‘transform’ a team when he is given the freedom he needs to express himself.
Since we doubt Manchester United will sell, as he is also hugely marketable, Pogba’s best bet is probably to run down his contract at Old Trafford if he really wants that move.
That won’t happen until 2022.
