If there’s one spot in his Liverpool side Jürgen Klopp seems determined to bolster this summer, it’s at left-back.
With only Alberto Moreno capable of making an impact in that position, the German manager has been looking here and there for someone talented enough to give the Spaniard some competition, and the names have varied in renown.
Raphael Guerreiro was apparently high on the list, but a move to Dortmund scuppered those plans, and a few others have followed without much coming of them.
The latest in the series is a bit younger, yet to make an official debut for Lyon, but has proved rather impressive in pre-season for his current season.
Jordy Gaspar, 19, was reported by L’Equipe as being a target for Klopp, and Le Progrès in their Thursday edition say the youngster has been the subject of an enquiry from Liverpool, which is step further than what the national newspaper originally claimed.
The local media outlet question a potential departure for the youngster, stating it wouldn’t make sense, and the coaches at Lyon are trying to protect him as best they can from the rumours circulating.
Of course, they have a certain bias in all of this, being primarily a Lyon-based newspaper, but considering the youngster is still on a youth contract, their and the coaches’ efforts may prove futile.
