Just a few weeks ago, Kylian Mbappe’s situation appeared relatively straightforward. He was expected to leave PSG this summer as a free agent, and sign for Real Madrid. The French club would be left angry, but the striker would be fulfilling a childhood dream, and that would be that.
However, comments from the France star over the past week have thrown doubt on the situation, Mbappe insisted he’s made no decision on his future and that there are ‘new elements’ to consider.
L’Equipe believe that could mean new clubs have moved into the picture, and Liverpool are the first Premier League side pushed forward.
According to the report, it had been thought signing Mbappe would be out of Liverpool’s financial reach, but it’s now asked whether they could pull together a ‘bold financial package’ to convince the player.
Manchester City are then named, although L’Equipe say Mbappe has previously had doubts about the club’s ‘lack of historical dimension’. That’s something he’d certainly get with Jurgen Klopp’s side, as well as a club fighting for trophies at the top of the European game.
Still, despite all of that, Liverpool strongly going in would be a big shock, mainly down to the economic realities of a deal.
