Lucas Digne ‘wants to leave’ Everton this month, and Aston Villa are the ‘most serious’ club in the race for his signature.

That’s according to Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard, who backs up reports from England regarding a potential move to Villa Park.

Digne has been heavily linked with a move away from Everton for the last month or so following a fall out with manager Rafa Benitez behind the scenes.

The Frenchman is believed to be unhappy with the role he has been asked to play under the Spaniard, which has seen him asked to focus more on the defensive side of the game than his attacking numbers.

It’s led to him being left out of the squad, with Benitez publicly criticising the player and confirming he wants to leave Everton if he can.

A move to Europe seemed the most likely outcome, but reports in England have made it clear that it is Aston Villa who are pushing for his signature.

There is talk that a deal is at an advanced stage, with Digne keen on the move, and Maynard confirms as much.

He reports that Digne does indeed want to leave Everton this month, and Steven Gerrard’s side are pushing to get a deal done. He says Aston Villa are the ‘most serious’ club in terms of suitors.

They already have an ‘agreement’ with the full-back, although he doesn’t make the finer details of that agreement clear.

In terms of a deal with Everton, that is set to be worth around €30m, although it could be a bit less than that figure, which tallies with the reports from England that have it around £25m.

Either way, the French side of things very much tallies with the English side of it, with Digne looking likely to swap Everton for Aston Villa before the end of the month.
