As the whole world knows, West Ham star Dimitri Payet wants to leave the London club in January. But and agreement between the Premier League side and Marseille might not be imminent.
Yesterday, Marseille’s president Jacques-Henri Eyraud and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta were in London to meet West Ham and possibly negotiate a deal.
Marseille have already placed an offer of €22m plus €3m in bonuses, and they’re expected to submit a new offer soon. A couple of days ago, L’Equipe reported West Ham have fixed a price of €40m for Payet, but they now claim West Ham haven’t fixed a price tag for Payet.
Marseille are expected to make a new offer ‘fairly quickly’, but it’s very unlikely they’ll go beyond €30m, which might not be enough to convince West Ham.
At the moment, Marseille are the only club to register interest in Payet, except for an unnamed Chinese club, and West Ham are prepared to sell the player to the highest bidder.
However, L’Equipe say a move to China could be a disaster for Payet, as he might lose his place in the France national team.
The 29-year-old is expected to resume training today at West Ham, but L’Equipe say the player doesn’t know if he’s training with the first team or ‘U21’ squad.
The French newspaper says the situation is ‘testing the nerves’ of Payet.
