Things can happen very quickly on transfer deadline day, and the deal involving David Luiz’s return to Chelsea is a perfect example of that.

Completely out of the blue, the Stamford Bridge contingent have chucked around €40m + bonuses at Paris Saint-Germain to bring back their former defender.

This might seem like a desperate move, and perhaps it is.

After all, Chelsea saw all of their attempts to sign a new centre-back pushed back over the course of the summer, and with Marquinhos now ahead of the former Benfica star in the pecking order at Paris Saint-Germain, the temptation was perhaps too strong.

Making a name for himself at the Premier League club following his move from Benfica, the soon-to-be-ex-Paris Saint-Germain defender is currently on a train back to London, according to Le Parisien.

In fact, it’s moved so quickly that we now have a time for the player’s medical, which, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi, journalist for RMC Sport, is at 6pm UK time (7pm in France).

This season is going to be fun…
