It’s hard to write an article based on another that is factually incorrect, but we’re going to give it a try because the idea isn’t bad, it’s just poorly executed.

On Tuesday, France Football published their magazine, and, in it, tried to workout who would be the best striker for Marseille next season, giving us nine potential candidates, including Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke.

The Eagles currently sit 17th in the Premier League, two points above Southampton, who have a game in hand.

Were the Saints to win that, Roy Hodgson’s side would return into the relegation zone, and the prospect of returning to the Championship would become very real once again.

If that were to happen, then we could see a mass exodus, one you would expect to be led by the Belgium international, even if he has had a bad season, and Marseille could be a great landing spot for him.

This is the idea France Football plant in the heads of their readers, only to then go the whole article claiming Benteke is still a Liverpool player, currently at Selhurst Park on loan.

That isn’t quite the case, considering Crystal Palace paid just under £30m for him back in 2016.

Still, if the London side ended up back in England’s second-tier, they would need to sell, which means a lot of their players’ value would drop.

France Football reckon €25m should do the trick, and that’s not a bad shout, even going as far as saying Benteke is ‘susceptible’ of leaving Palace in the summer and landing in the south of France.

Do they know something we don’t?
