Southampton finished 6th last season under Ronald Koeman, and they’re not going to be able to match that this time around. Again selling players, and swapping manager last summer, Claude Puel currently has Southampton in 9th position.
West Brom are three points ahead in 8th, but with Southampton having a game in hand, that could easily change. Finishing 8th wouldn’t be bad at all. It would be difficult to make an argument that Southampton should really be doing a lot better over the season as a whole.
Despite that. L’Equipe aren’t convinced Puel will continue to be Southampton manager after the current campaign. The French newspaper state that following the draw against Hull City, Puel was, for the first time, ‘heckled’ by his own supporters.
L’Equipe say ‘it’s not certain’ Puel will continue at Southampton.
There’s an accompanying video to the L’Equipe article which is supposed to shed more light on the reasoning. It doesn’t, and this all seems to be an over reactionary stance from the French newspaper.
