Barnsley are one of several clubs interested in Chamois Nort defender Julian da Costa this summer, according to L’Equipe.
The 23-year-old right back featured 29 times for the Ligue 2 side last season and seemingly earned plenty of interest with his performances.
Ligue 1 side Montpellier are particularly keen and may make a move for him as a replacement for Ruben Aguilar, who is reportedly close to joining Monaco.
They’re likely to face competition for his signature, though, with L’Equipe reporting that ‘several’ Championship clubs are interested as well. Barnsley are the only side they specifically name-check, however.
The newspaper doesn’t mention a potential fee for Da Costa, although they do believe Ligue 2 side Troyes are leading the race for his signature.
France’s second tier has started to earn plenty of attention in recent years, following the success of N’Golo Kante, who Leicester City discovered while playing in the division.
The likes of Mateo Guendouzi and Riyad Mahrez are two others to have been scooped from the division in recent years, before going on to establish themselves in the Premier League.
The success of those three, plus plenty of other stars around Europe, means the division is now one many clubs around Europe are keeping an eye on as they hunt for the next bargain.
