France’s Le10Sport report on Wednesday that Mikel Arteta ‘wants’ Memphis Depay and is considering the Lyon player as a serious option should he lose one or more of his strikers this summer.

There’s been repeat rumours around the futures of both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in recent months. Several clubs in Europe are thought to be looking at the players, with the Gunners under pressure when it comes to the latter’s contract situation.

As a result, alternatives have been repeatedly presented, and it would appear Depay is the latest of those. Just like Aubameyang, he has a contract expiring in June 2021, which makes a move this summer very possible.

Le10Sport say Arsenal’s manager has a ‘clear idea’ about the type of striker he’d like to recruit should he need to, and the Lyon player fits what he’s looking for.

Arteta ‘appreciates’ Depay’s technical qualities, as well as the player’s personality, presumably believing they would help with what he’s trying to achieve at the Premier League club.

No potential transfer fee is mentioned, although it’s made clear Depay could be tempted by a return to English football.
