If RMC Sport in France are to be believed, then Anthony Martial isn’t anywhere close to renewing his contract with Manchester United, amid interest from Tottenham.
In fact, the French media outlet claim that, as things stand, discussions between the French forward and the club are ‘at a standstill’.
Of course, with the club still having the option to extend his current contract, which ends in 2019, by a year, there isn’t a rush to get anything done, but giving him a new deal would certainly help appease everyone involved.
The 22-year-old’s agent is said to have met with Manchester United back in December, with the club then expected to send a renewal, but nothing arrived.
RMC explain the forward is said to be ‘astonished’ by this, and feels a ‘lack of recognition’, forcing him to think about the future of his career.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez appears to have blocked talks, and Martial has even interrupted the purchase of a house he’d found in Manchester.
While all this is going on in the north of England, RMC Sport also report that Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham are ‘courting’ the former Monaco starlet. Inter Milan are also said to be interested, and RMC lean on suggestions from Spain of Real Madrid being keen.
This isn’t the first time Spurs have been linked with the Manchester United forward, with L’Equipe, as well as RMC Sport, reporting an interest last summer after Martial endured a difficult first season under José Mourinho, and have been after him since his Monaco days.
We’re not saying it’s time to panic, but if the Red Devils wait too long, there’s every chance the player could get annoyed.
Also, how much would they ask for him?
