After two rather enthralling games against Tottenham and Manchester United during which Arsenal scored a combined six goals, the last thing you’d think Unai Emery needs is another striker.

Already struggling to fit Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the same side regularly, the Spaniard shouldn’t want to add to his already rather imposing headache.

That’s why we raised both eyebrows when we saw some reports in Belgium claiming Arsenal had joined the race to sign Welsey Moraes from Club Brugge.

We then saw the source (it was from England), and quickly moved on.

The problem is the story has reached Club Brugge itself, where Ivan Leko, their manager, commented on the rumour.

Relayed by DH, he said: “I’m sure that Wesley has the level to play for Arsenal. He can be proud of what he’s done in the past six months. He’s working hard and reaping the benefits, but to play in the Premier League, he needs to work even harder, and every day.

“Am I worried for the rest of the season? There are intelligent people in the club who prepare the future and anticipate departures. I’m not worrying about what happens with Dennis, Wesley or Vanaken during the next transfer window just yet.”

So far, Wesley has scored 10 goals and picked up four assists in 22 appearances this season, and the 22-year-old has five years left on his contract, having renewed it as recently as September 3rd of this year.
