Fabio Borini could be set for a surprise return to England, with Birmingham City interested in a move for the Italian.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio, who says that the idea has come from the Blues technical director Craig Gardner, who was teammates with the striker at Sunderland.
Di Marzio explains that Borini is currently under contract with Turkish outfit Fatih Karagümrük, whom he joined in January this year when he was a free agent.
His deal with the club only runs until June next year, though, and like any player in that situation, it means his future is in doubt.
Should he leave this summer, Birmingham are apparently keen and could offer him a return to England after four years away.
Di Marzio says that Birmingham have ‘targeted’ the Italian via Gardner, who was teammates with him during the 2013/14 season.
There is no mention of contact being made at this point in time, or even whether Borini would be interested in another move to England after spells with Chelsea, Swansea, Liverpool and Sunderland in the past.
Either way, it appears Birmingham are willing to offer it, so keep your eyes out for this potentially becoming a thing when the transfer window gets underway properly.
