Thomas Neubert has told the Romania media he believes Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim is the most talented player at the German club despite his struggles this season. Maxim could leave Stuttgart in the summer, and has been linked with a move to Leeds United.
Speaking to Pro Sport, Neubert was asked about Maxim’s current situation at Stuttgart after being frozen out by Hannes Wolf this season. The German forward said Maxim in theory is the best player at the club, but he’s been told the Romanian international will not get regular games under Wolf. Neubert believes this is because Maxim is not following the instructions of the German coach, and he thinks this could lead to his exit.
“Look at Maxim in Stuttgart. I have friends there who tell me he has no chance to play consistently. He’s by far the most talented. He’s fantastic at set pieces, at corners, free kicks in training. But if you do not do what the coach says, even for five minutes, you’re out!” said the German on the Leeds United target.
in January Leeds United held initial talks with his agent to sign Maxim. These talks with Leeds United were confirmed by the player’s agent, but at the time he said he only expected his client to move in the summer. Leeds United boss Garry Monk had previously tried to sign the player when he was Swansea City manager.
Stuttgart boss Wolf has also given Leeds United encouragement by confirming the German side will listen to offers for Maxim because he has several players who can play in his position.
