This week, reports from the English media claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in the signing of Benfica winger Rafa Silva.
It was said that following the departure of Adama Traore, manager Bruno Lage is looking at his compatriot to fill the empty spot at the Molineux side.
Now the Portuguese media is obviously responding to those rumours. Newspaper Record today features a piece on the situation, and despite not confirming any contacts for the move, they do bring Silva’s stance on this possibility.
According to their report, the winger is ‘receptive’ to a move to the Premier League, as English football is ‘to his liking’, and believes his features would ‘fit’ very well there.
Rafa Silva’s wish to move to the Premier League has never been a secret. The player has been linked to English clubs since his early success at Braga, and it’s always been reported that he dreamed of making a move.
Now at the age of 28, he has ended up becoming a quite important player for Benfica over the past few years. He has 11 goals and 17 assists in 38 appearances for the club this season, and is currently protected at the club by a release clause worth €60m.
We doubt Wolverhampton would have to pay that much to get their man, but you never know with Portuguese sides.
