Liverpool have reportedly made an offer for the Santos wonderkid Rodrygo.
According to major Brazilian website Globo Esporte, the Reds are keen on the striker who has impressed with the Brazilian whilst coming through their ranks.
As the player has turned 16 in January, it’s about time for Santos to offer him a professional contract. Their delay in doing so would allow Liverpool and other interested clubs to push their own positions.
Globo Esporte claims the Liverpool offer even ‘rocked’ the youngster, but his plan is to start his career in Brazil and then think of a move to Europe.
Things will be a lot harder if Liverpool miss out on Rodrygo at the first attempt. With a professional contract, Santos are expected to protect the player with a huge release clause.
Rodrygo’s potential is surrounded by great expectation from Santos’ board and fans, with some saying he’s the next one to follow Neymar and Gabigol in the club’s generation of talents.
Liverpool interest would be surprising given the player’s age. FIFA rules on the transfer of minors prohibit such a transfer until a footballer reaches 18 years of age.
