With Sergio Agüero out of sorts and with a contract expiring in the summer, Manchester City have decisions to make at the striker position.

Gabriel Jesus will be the natural successor, although the emergence of Ferran Torres in the role has also helped Pep Guardiola sleep easier at night.

Still, there’s no real plan B at the Etihad these days, even if one recently presented itself, with Manchester City given the chance to sign an old player of theirs.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who report the Premier League side were presented with Edin Dzeko, who is currently far from the happiest bunny at AS Roma.

Falling out with Paulo Fonseca, his manager, the former Manchester City striker is allegedly looking for a way out, with West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers rather keen.

The problem for them is he’d rather join ‘first-tier clubs’, and turned down the chance of playing in London or the West Midlands.

It’s then revealed there was a ‘knocking on doors’ at Manchester City, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but neither of the Premier League clubs took the bait, at least for now.

The two La Liga giants were interested, although they weren’t able to get a deal done, and there’s no mention of what happened with City and Spurs, suggesting they simply weren’t that keen.

At the end of the day, Dzeko is nearing 35 and currently earns €7.5m/year in Rome, so it’s not exactly a cheap or guaranteed gamble.

While a short return to the Etihad might help out both parties if Agüero continues to struggle, it seems unlikely at this moment in time.
