Former Cardiff City forward Lex Immers has revealed to the Belgian media why he took the decision to join Club Brugge over the other interested clubs. Immers was recently released from his contract at Cardiff City and was linked with a move to SPL champions Celtic.
Speaking to HLN, Immers was asked his reasons for joining Brugge despite attention from some major clubs like Celtic and Stuttgart. The Dutchman said he’s visited the city frequently so when he heard of their interest it was an easy decision to make.
Immers confirmed Brugge had also tried to sign him in the past and had kept in contact with the leaders of the Jupiler club.
“I’ve come quite often to Bruges. So, when I heard Club were one of the teams that wanted me (next to Stuttgart, Glasgow Celtic and AZ Alkmaar and FC Utrecht, says HLN’s editor), my choice was made very quickly. Also, because the board had previously wanted to sign me contact always remained. I now play at Club and I find it very beautiful,” said the former Cardiff City player.
Despite Celtic’s interest it always seemed likely he would sign for a club closer to his home country due to family reasons.
Last week we covered reports from the Netherlands that Immers was set to decide on his future and Celtic were showing serious interest in the forward.
With Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers looking to bolster his squad in this window Immers was an option, but it seems his desire to play for the Belgian side meant Celtic missed out on him.
