Pretty much as soon as Manuel Pellegrini was announced as West Ham’s new manager, a story linking them to Edin Dzeko appeared.
The Bosnia international played some of his best football at Manchester City under the Chilean in 2013-14, and it made some sense, as the Hammers yet again looked for an experienced goalscorer.
The story has never really gone away, and a couple of days ago, Everton were thrown into the mix.
Also in need of a new striker, the Toffees have targeted Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi, but Edin Dzeko would certainly be a strong plan B.
After all, he knows the league well and, while he’s struggled a bit in the league this season, is still capable of being lethal in front of goal.
However, as he showed last year when Chelsea were after him, a return to England isn’t at the top of his list of priorities, and Corriere dello Sport repeat this on Friday amid the latest West Ham and Everton rumours, claiming the centre forward ‘doesn’t seem interested’ in leaving Roma.
With Champions League football to look forward to in the second half of the campaign, few can blame him.
Next summer will be a different story altogether, but a January exit seems highly unlikely.
