According to a claim in the Romanian media, Aston Villa are showing an interest in Gaz Metan Mediaş attacker Darius Olaru.

Gsp.ro today report Olaru is being ‘courted’ by Aston Villa, along with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, but any attempt to sign the player, who usually operates on the right wing, is likelier to happen in the summer rather than in this transfer window.

Romanian agent Arcadie Zaporojanu has also confirmed the Championship side’s interest in the 20 year old after revealing they’ve approached him about the player: “I was in England. I gave Aston Villa a few references about him, figures and everything they needed. So far they’ve not made an official offer to Gaz Metan, they want to get as much information, see matches with him and get a clear idea.”

Aston Villa should expect to face competition from Borussia Dortmund following claims the German league leaders will watch the attacker at the UEFA European Under-21 Championships this summer.

It’s also reported Olaru may move on during the next summer transfer window if any concrete offers come in for the player.

The Romania U21 is contracted to Gaz Metan until June 2021 and he’s become a regular in the team after making his debut for the club in 2015.
