After his important goal for Turkey against Croatia on Tuesday, Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun has spoken to Turkish newspaper Sabah.

During the interview one of the main talking points was his failed transfer to Crystal Palace and the Turkish international has spoken about his proposed move to the Premier League.

Tosun said: “Crystal Palace made a bid for me on the last day. If they made this offer a week ago, then I’d be probably be in England.”

We covered reports last week Tosun was a target for Crystal Palace in the final days of the window, but despite the two clubs agreeing a fee of £12.5m for the striker, the payment structure was an issue for the Turkish champions.

Crystal Palace’s proposal was to pay the fee over 24 months, but Besiktas wanted the money up-front, and subsequently an agreement couldn’t be reached.

The Turkish club were also concerned about bringing in a replacement for the international before the window closes in Turkey tomorrow, and this was another reason for not allowing his move to Crystal Palace.
