Leaving the Premier League to return to the Eredivisie over the summer, Dusan Tadic appears to have made the right choice.
Already struggling last season, Southampton are once again in the middle of a relegation battle, recently sacking Mark Hughes and replacing him with Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Scoring just 13 goals in the Premier League so far, the club are being outscored by the Serbian forward himself, who has 16 in all competitions this season for Ajax, as well as 11 assists.
One of the reasons why Tadic feels like he’s enjoying himself so much is the fact everyone around him has been drilled with the mentality of playing football on a technical level, something he felt was lacking at Southampton at times.
Speaking to VI, he said: “At Ajax, I feel completely at home. The way of playing, training. Everything is based around the football. At Southampton, for example, I knew it was hard for certain players to really play football. It just wasn’t a part of their game.”
However, that doesn’t mean the 30-year-old didn’t enjoy his time at St Mary’s, it’s just he feels Ajax is a better fit for him now.
He explained: “After four years in the Premier League, I felt like my body was ready for a new competition. No more endless games in winter without a break that leaves you at season’s end with a body completely broken.
“Don’t get me wrong, it was great to play at Southampton and in the Premier League, but it’s also very demanding on your body, especially for a forward like me.”
During his four seasons with the club, Dusan Tadic scored 24 goals and picked up 35 assists in 162 games.
