Unless you watch Ligue 1, the name Julien Féret probably doesn’t mean a whole lot to you.

The 34-year-old attacking midfielder has made a successful career playing at some of the smaller French clubs, and, now at Caen, he’s enjoyed a decent start to the season (one goal in three games).

With his current club currently 10th in Ligue 1 after four games, the player returned to his former club Rennes over the weekend, where they lost 2-0.

Prior to the game, the veteran gave an interview to Goal France where he discussed some of his former teammates, notably a certain N’Golo Kanté, now at Chelsea.

Asked if he was surprised of the midfielder’s success in England, he said: “Not necessarily surprised, maybe pleasantly surprised. He had the quality, and he became too important for Caen. It was logical for him to go to a bigger club.

“Firstly at Leicester and then looking at what he did, his transfer to Chelsea remains logical. There comes a time when it’s not surprising anymore, you see it and it’s clear. I’m very happy for him.”

Féret then went on to explain what Kanté would bring to Antonio Conte’s side, with his ability to defend and sweep up loose balls obviously mentioned.

Having covered a few interviews about the player, we’re yet to find someone who’s played with the diminutive midfielder who has been surprised by his astronomical rise.

We’ll keep looking, but frankly, we’re not holding our breath.
