Celtic midfielder Kouassi Eboue has told the Russian media he doesn’t understand why his former Krasnodar teammate Fedor Smolov hasn’t made the move to England.

Smolov was linked with a move to West Ham United in the last transfer window, following claims he was in talks with the Hammers.

Speaking to iz.ru, Eboue was asked about Smolov heading to the Premier League, after West Ham’s interest: “For me, Fedor is a brilliant player. I don’t understand why he’s not in London yet. I hope next season he will have a chance to play in England.”

During the last transfer window West Ham were reportedly in talks with Smolov, with claims the Russian was keen on a move to London, but the player himself had suggested otherwise.

Speaking in Russia, Smolov explained“It’s true they made an offer, then they increased it. But, West Ham are near the bottom of the table, against Man City they were very defensive, that’s not my style.”
