Bought as part of Newcastle’s French revolution in 2011, Sylvain Marveaux’s time in the north of England didn’t exactly go to plan, and the winger was released last summer by the club.

Only making 57 appearances in five years with the Geordies, the now 31-year-old only managed to score two goals and provide nine assists.

Joining Lorient soon after his release, Marveaux enjoyed a relatively good season with the Ligue 1 outfit, even if they didn’t manage to stay up, as he bagged himself five goals and six assists in just 24 league games.

Now preparing himself for a season in France’s second division, the forward gave an interview to Ouest-France in which he revealed he could finish his career with the French club, hoping he’ll see off his three-year deal with them.

However, during the interview, the player took the opportunity to have a little moan about his time as Newcastle United player.

He said: “I’m 31, I’ve had a career of ups and downs. I didn’t leave France in the best conditions aged 25, but I was lucky to sign a five-year deal in England with Newcastle. I had a good deal, but I didn’t take any pleasure over there.

“Last year, with Lorient, gave me a lot of joy, even if we were relegated. Actually playing and being back in the area, that helped me settle. I want to continue like that.”
