Former Manchester City midfielder Elano is set to return to the club to have a coaching internship with manager Pep Guardiola.
The Brazilian, who turned 36 years of age this week, retired last December and has been an assistant manager at Brazilian club Santos ever since.
When his boss Dorival Junior was sacked earlier this month, Elano took charge of the team for two matches, and won them both. Now, according to Yahoo, the club believe he could be useful in the future, since the new manager Levir Culpi only has a contract until December.
That’s why Santos will keep paying Elano’s salary whilst he coaches at Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the year. The presence of Pep Guardiola at the Premier League side is considered the main factor for this trip.
Elano has played for Santos in four different spells since 2001. He won seven titles for the club, including two Brazilian leagues and one Copa Libertadores.
