Simone Zaza’s former coach at Ascoli has told the Italian media he’s surprised the forward failed to make an impact at West Ham United. Zaza joined West Ham in the summer from Juventus, but the Premier League club won’t be signing the player on a permanent basis.
Speaking to TMW, Massio Silva was asked about the future of Zaza, and why he failed in England. Silva said he’s unsure why his former player didn’t produce at West Ham because he believes he has the make-up to be successful in English football.
The Italian thought Zaza would cause a lot of problems for defenders in the Premier League, and therefore has questioned the suitability of West Ham manager Slaven Bilic to get the best out of the Italy international.
“I was not expecting that he would find these difficulties in England. Due to his extraordinary physical gifts, I was convinced he could do very well. I was still convinced that in England he could cause havoc. Sometimes it takes the right situations and also a suitable coach.”
Zaza is expected to leave London after failing to score for West Ham this season. The Hammers had an obligation to make the move permanent if the attacker played a certain number of games, but the player never reached this tally.
