Leeds United are showing an interest in Cagliari forward Marco Borriello, according to reports in the Italian media. The 34-year-old previously had a spell in England with West Ham United, and has played for 12 Italian clubs, some of them more than once.
La Nuova Sardegna have claimed Leeds United have been looking at the possibility of signing Borriello, with owner Massimo Cellino prepared to raid his former club. The former Italy international has been in impressive form for the Serie A side this season following his move in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United boss Garry Monk will be hoping to bolster his attacking options in this window as the club aim to get promotion to the Premier League. Leeds United are short of out and out strikers, and have been linked with other attackers in recent weeks. However, with Borriello key in Cagliari’s season a deal would be difficult.
In September Borriello claimed he could have joined Manchester United or Real Madrid in 2010, but instead opted for AS Roma, and his claim is pretty hard to believe. The veteran made a name for himself in the Italian capital, which led to a move to Juventus.
The forward did have a brief loan spell with West Ham, but he failed to make an impact during his time in the Premier League.
