Rather unceremoniously let go by Manchester United to make way for the arrival of José Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal set off to his Portuguese villa and many of us thought that would be that for the Dutchman.
The former Barcelona manager made it clear his spell at Manchester United would be the last stretch of his career, with Van Gaal repeating a few times he would call it a day once he left Old Trafford.
Well, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan apparently have different plans, or at least their new backers do.
Bought out by a Chinese consortium, the Serie A side will now commence a search for a new manager, with quite a few impressive names being thrown around to start the club’s revival.
André Villas-Boas and Frank de Boer are two names that aren’t all that surprising, but Louis Van Gaal certainly is.
While these are just names heard on the grapevine by the Italian newspaper, potential candidates such as Manuel Pellegrini, Laurent Blanc (expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain soon) and Rudi Garcia don’t seem to have been considered.
It would certainly be a mild shock to see AC Milan go for the former Manchester United manager, yet, considering his pride, he might not want to end his career on a failure.
Perhaps he sees this new rebuilding job as the perfect opportunity to actually finish on a high?
