Having recently announced his retirement from football, Steven Gerrard has made it clear he wants to go into coaching.

Whether that is via a return to Liverpool, where Jürgen Klopp is currently manager, in some shape or form remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: he’ll always be remember in the Merseyside city.

Spending 16 years at the Premier League club, the midfielder established him as one of Anfield biggest legends, helping the club win the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the League Cup three times and the FA Cup twice.

However, for some, he comes across as even more than a legend.

Speaking to FIFA.com, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who played with the former Liverpool captain between 2001 and 2006 was asked who he would remember as the biggest star he played with.

Without hesitating, he said: “It has to be Steven Gerrard. He had incredible charisma, on and off the pitch. Few emit such serenity, and he’s loyal. I stayed in touch with him for a long time. He’s a really nice guy, and having played at Liverpool, I saw how important a player can be to a city.

“Gerrard is a God over there, you have to see it to believe it. He was just an extraordinary player and captain, capable of deciding a game by himself with a 30-yard shot. For me, he’ll go down in history.”

Before his move to the MLS with LA Galaxy in 2015, the now 36-year-old midfielder made 690 appearances for the Reds, scoring 180 goals and picking up 100 assists along the way.

Will there ever be another Steven Gerrard for Liverpool? That seems very unlikely in this day and age.
