Ahead of Wednesday night’s Napoli-Liverpool Champions League clash, a couple of newspapers decided to have a chat with Andrea Dossena, who has played for both teams during his lengthy football career.
We’ll start off with Gazzetta dello Sport, who go straight in, no messing around, and ask the 37-year-old what he remembered from his time at Anfield.
He said: “It was amazing. The midfielder of Gerrard, Mascherano and Xabi Alonso was crazy. Steven was a calm leader, transmitted serenity to the group. He carried the weight of a whole city on his shoulders like Totti at Roma.”
As for the game itself, Dossena expects Napoli to face a difficult game against a ‘great Klopp’, and the Italian side will need to ensure they find Insigne between the lines as he doesn’t see Milik having a good game against Virgil Van Dijk.
Over at Il Mattino, the former Liverpool and Napoli defender explained the importance of this game for Carlo Ancelotti and his men.
As expected, he pinpointed the Reds’ wings as the main threat.
He said: “Liverpool go a thousand miles an hour, the full-backs are really quick. It’ll be hard one on one for Rui and Hysaj. The centre-backs are really good in the air. In goal they have taken one of the best in Alisson, but Ancelotti won’t be lacking ideas to beat this dreadnought.”
A tasty game ahead, if Dossena is to be believed.
