Former Leeds United forward Andy Ritchie expects Newcastle United to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt. The North East side were relegated from the Premier League last season, but currently lie third in the Championship.

Writing in his column for YEP, Ritchie said he expects Newcastle United to sign new players when the window opens in the New Year following a busy summer in the transfer market. Ritchie thinks Rafa Benitez’s team are the strongest in the league, and therefore believes they will get promotion back to the Premier League in this campaign.

“Newcastle are one of those teams that will be able to bring people in when the window re-opens. They are going to be one of the strong teams and I think they will go straight back up and I thought that before the season started,” said Ritchie.

After a shaky start Newcastle United have got their season back on track, and showed their intentions last week when they demobilised Queens Park Rangers 6-0. With the money they spent in the summer Benitez’s side is expected to return to the Premier League, and are likely to bring in players in January.
