Former Leeds United forward Mirco Antenucci has told the Italian media he regrets not getting the chance to play in Serie A with Torino. The 32-year-old could realise his dream of playing in the Italian top flight if his current club SPAL get promotion this season.
TMW have reported on comments Antenucci made to Sky Italia when asked about the possibility of getting promotion with SPAL. The forward said not playing in Serie A with Torino is the one regret he has in his football career. Torino side gained promotion under current Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura, but the player was sold to Catania that summer.
“Perhaps the only regret is not being able to play in the top flight with Torino after winning promotion with Ventura,” said the former Leeds United star.
Two years later Antenucci left Italian football to sign for Leeds United in 2014, despite his desire to play in Serie A. The striker had success in his first season at Leeds United when he was the top scorer of the club, but he was in and out of the team in the next campaign.
Last summer Antenucci was released by Leeds United, but has landed on his feet with title chasing SPAL. The Serie B side currently top the table, and have a good chance of promotion to Serie A.
