Former Leeds United director of sport Nicola Salerno is set to be announced in the same role at Palermo on Monday, report SassiLive, and he may find it even more challenging than working under Massimo Cellino.
Salerno will be Palermo’s third director of sport this season, and he’ll certainly hope there’s no fourth on the way. Palermo are currently 18th out of 20 in Serie A so the pressure is well and truly on.
Should they not avoid the drop, and Salerno manage to avoid the chop, then there could be a good line of business to Leeds United, especially if Garry Monk gets them back to the Premier League.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini tried to recruit Salerno both before he joined up with Cellino at Leeds United, and after he left the club.
Salerno and Cellino worked with each other at Cagliari before they both moved to Leeds United. Salerno was with Watford after his spell at Leeds and there have always been suggestions of a possible Elland Road return, but it looks as though that’s out of the question for the foreseeable future.
