Palermo have joined the race to sign Ternana forward Felipe Avenatti, according to claims in the Italian media. The 23-year-old will be available on a free transfer in the summer, and has been linked with a move to Leeds United.
Tutto Calciatori have reported former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno is keen to bring Avenatti to the Sicilian club, along with his Ternana teammate Cesar Falletti.
Avenatti has been in impressive goalscoring form this season, and because of his contract situation the Uruguayan is attracting attention from other clubs.
It’s been claimed Salerno has already held meetings with Avenatti’s agent, but a move to Palermo could depend on whether they remain in Serie A as relegation is still a possibility.
Now it’s been confirmed Avenatti will see out his contract with the Serie B club, a scramble to sign the South American is likely to happen in the summer.
Leeds United could be one of those clubs looking to snap the player up on a free transfer after their previous attempts to sign him. Leeds United made an approach for Avenatti in the last summer window, but again were unsuccessful.
Massimo Cellino was the man pushing Leeds’ interest in the player and could come up in a battle against his former right hand man.
