Former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno looks set to appoint Diego Lopez as the new manager of Palermo. Salerno was recently appointed as the sporting director of Palermo after three years in England with Leeds United and Watford.
TMW have reported Salerno’s first step at Palermo will be to appoint a new coach after Eugenio Corini recently resigned from from his post.
Salerno could look to be reunited with Lopez after their time together at Cagliari. Salerno at the time was working under current Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino, and bringing Lopez to Palermo looks viable at this stage.
Lopez was linked with the Leeds United managers job in the summer before the Championship side appointed Garry Monk. The Uruguayan was one of the favourites to replace Steven Evans with Cellino keen to work again with the 41-year-old.
Lopez played for 12 years with Cagliari when Cellino was the owner and president of the Italian club.
