Former Everton winger Andy van der Meyde believes Memphis Depay would be an ideal player for his old club. Depay has been linked with move to Goodison Park in the past week following comments made by Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Van der Meyde was asked about the possibility of Depay moving to Everton in the next window. The former Netherlands international said Everton would suit Depay, but only because Koeman is at the club.

Van der Meyde believes the Manchester United winger would be able to flourish on Merseyside, and show that he does possess talent. The Dutchman went on to say Depay hasn’t had it easy since joining Manchester United, but pointed out he’s still a young player.

“Everton is the perfect club for Memphis Depay, but only because Ronald Koeman is there. He will give him all the confidence back that he needs.

“Memphis has not had it easy, though. He’s been touted as a big boy, but of course he is very young. I’ve been there myself,” said the former Everton player.

Depay has struggled to get playing time since Jose Mourinho was installed as the Manchester United boss in the summer, but his two goals for the Netherlands on Sunday demonstrated what he can produce. Koeman also went on record at the weekend to say Depay was a player he admired, and would consider signing for Everton.
