While they might not always be our go to source for Italian news, Calciomercato provide a decent service of relaying other outlets’ news and including their own information from time to time.
The English version of their website, however, is, at times, frankly laughable, embellishing stories to the extent where they don’t reflect what has actually been said.
A perfect example of this an article they published on Thursday with the headline “Juve: Moggi reveals €80m Barça target will join Chelsea” regarding Miralem Pjanic.
This was quite a bold claim, so we decided to take a look at it.
In the article, Calciomercato write ‘as per Il Bianconero’, so we went to have a look over there.
Their version is that Luciano Moggi, Juventus’ former director of football, ‘let himself go with three clear words’, hinting that Barcelona were not alone in their pursuit of Pjanic, with Chelsea ‘on the player as a first possible signing in view of the arrival of Sarri’.
So, first of all, that isn’t he ‘will join Chelsea’, like Calciomercato English claimed.
Secondly, and this is quite important, all Luciano Moggi did was tweet ‘#Sarri #Pjanic #Chelsea’ late on Wednesday evening.
At no point did he construct a full sentence claiming anything.
Any story you will see about this is an interpretation of a tweet from a man who doesn’t have anything to do with Juventus anymore, having retired from the world of football in 2006. It may be his own inside information, it may mean absolutely nothing at all.
