Former Lazio coach Eugenio Fascetti has defended West Ham United legend Paolo Di Canio after he was suspended by Sky Italia. Di Canio was handed a suspension for displaying a tattoo perceived to be fascist whilst on air.

Speaking to TMW, Fascetti said he doesn’t agree with the decision made by Sky Italia, and believes the sports broadcaster doesn’t have any idea what they’re doing. The 77-year-old believes his former player is a good commentator, and has proven himself on his ‘Di Canio Premier’ show.

“Sky does not know anything? It’s a decision which in any case I do not agree. Too bad, because above all as a commentator Di Canio has proven to be very good,” said Fascetti.

Di Canio spent 4 seasons at West Ham United, and in that time became a firm favourite of the Upton Park faithful. The Italian played 118 Premier League games for the East London club, scoring 48 goals.

However, Di Canio’s career has been filled with controversy because of his run-ins with the football authorities, and seems to have been constantly followed by controversy relating to his political views.
